Hello and welcome to ‘Internoshnal Grubtrotters’! Here is a little bit of information about ourselves so you can to get to know us.

Who are we?

We are Mwara and Bridget Stuart. We are a mother and daughter duo who live in the Scottish Borders. Mwara is a science teacher and Bridget is a psychology student at University of Oxford. We both love reading, walking, the arts and importantly, cooking. We enjoy cooking lots of different types of cuisine and Bridget is a vegan, so our food is vegan-adaptable where possible. This blog is our 2020 New Years resolution. We have committed to cooking a meal from every country in the world, in alphabetical order from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, on a weekly basis. Come cook with us, as we travel the world, and learn about all the interesting and diverse cultures on our beautiful planet!

Why are we doing this (you might ask)?

Well initially, we thought it would be really fun and a great way to eat lots of yummy food. However, then we realised it would also be a great way to learn about all the different countries and cultures that we know nothing about and may never get a chance to visit. Traditional cuisine is passed on through generations and can carry great significance.

How it will work?

Each week we will visit one country. We will research the main traditional dishes and recipes on line. As we live apart, Mwara will cook the meal in the family home in Scotland and Bridget will cook in her University accommodation in Oxford. Bridget is a vegan, so will aim to cook a vegan alternative that is as true to the original recipe as possible.

We will then share with you our recipe, any alterations we made and any tips we came up with. We will share photos and our thoughts on the experience of cooking the dishes. Each week, we also aim to give some background information on the history and culture of the country, and the dishes we have cooked. Peter Stuart (Father) will also give a national drink recipe and music recommendation.

If you like the look of what we prepare, then go ahead and cook the meal the following week (or any time you like). We would love to hear how you get on and so please do get in touch. Also, if you are national of the country we are visiting on any particular week, please get in touch with any pointers or recommendations for us!

So, that’s us! Hope you enjoy our blog and lets get cooking!

*Disclaimer: Our thoughts on the dishes and the overall cooking experience are purely our own. We will aim to cook the dishes as true to form as possible however, accept that this will not always be possible. We do not want to cause any offence to anyone.
